Home Missions Church
Adoption Program

WHAT DO YOU DO?

You're the pastor of a mission church in a small community.

You have about twenty members in your congregation.  They're faithful in attendance and giving, but they can't provide a full salary for you, let alone think about a building program.

There's a subsidy from the AFLC for your salary, but that decreases each year.  Your church council members shake their heads when they look at the budget, and they say, "We don't know how we'll make it if we can't attract some more people."

You're working a second job to make ends meet.  Your wife and kids deserve more of your time.  Your friends and family ask, "Is anything ever going to happen with your church?"  The members of your congregation are beginning to ask the same thing.

A young couple with children visited a couple weeks ago.  When you called on them they said, "We liked your church, but we need a church home with more to offer our family."

    What do you do?

BODY BUILDERS

BODY BUILDERS is not a financial support program.  Body Builders helps established congregations come along side mission congregations, sharing wisdom and experience, praying, encouraging, and visiting them.  The "mentoring" church may help their adopted congregation financially, but that is up to them.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

With a minimum of fuss.  The pastor and council president sign the attached form and return it to our office.  We'll put you in touch with the pastor of "your" adopted church, and you work out your participation together.

Your congregation benefits from having a "mission of its own" and a chance for the members to share their spiritual gifts.  Fellowship and long-term friendships result.

In the AFLC, we cannot provide "professional" clergy for every congregational need.  But we believe in the priesthood of all believers.  Body Builders is an opportunity to exercise our priesthood.
